If your retired MWD is in need of care please reach out to us.
Our Military Working Dogs (MWD) provide an invaluable service and unmatched capabilities. Since World War II, the United States has routinely called upon our canine heroes to serve in various roles, fill capability gaps and ensure the safety of our troops as well as the protecting of our assets. From force protection and law enforcement operations, to serving as a force multiplier in combat environments, our MWDs have served our Nation with unconditional love and loyalty.
In 2000, H.R. 5314 (Robby’s Law) was approved and signed into law which allowed handlers to adopt their MWD after the canine had completed its service. However, the cost of maintaining the care and health of the retired MWD falls on to the handler. United States War Dog Association has developed several programs to assist with reducing the medical costs associated with caring for a retired MWD. We want to help you and your MWD during their well-deserved retirement. Below are the medical support programs USWDA provides.
WAR DOGS AWARDS PROGRAM
The Military Working Dog (MWD) Service Award is a award to an MWD who served within the Department of Defense with honor, courage and loyalty. The MWD must have completed training and been assigned to the operational forces. This award is a small token of appreciation for a job well done.
The Medal, which was instituted in 2010, features a German shepard on the front side and a Doberman, Labrador and Malinois on the back. the ribbon colors reflect the american flag. the medal is inscribed with the latin phrase "Fiedele Nos Praeeo"-"Faithfully we lead the way". Any dog who meets the criteria for service award will receive their own medal and certificate.
