AIR FORCE SERGEANT JOY MEEKER TAKES US TO A CEREMONY
WHERE 51ST. SECURITY FORCES HONORS ONE OF
THEIR FALLEN COMRADES.































MWD Boris C222 was born in March ’99. Upon completion of Narcotics and Patrol school,
Boris was assigned to
Misawa
AB. He arrived at Misawa in July 01 ’ to begin his service as a Drug Detection
Military Working Dog. Boris conducted Health, Moral, and Welfare Inspections in various facilities on Misawa, providing
commanders with a tool to ensure there were no illegal drugs in their facilities. He conducted countless dog demonstrations
for the base populace demonstrating the capabilities of a Patrol Dog. Boris’ most recent accomplishment was assisting
OSI with finding almost a pound of marijuana. During his career Boris conducted over 1500 hours of search time while
maintaining a 97% proficiency rating during all drug training trials. MWD Boris was last handled by SSgt Richard Nelson.

MWD Iwan W162 was born in March ’93. Upon completion of Narcotics and Patrol
school, Iwan was assigned to
Misawa
AB. He arrived at Misawa in September ’94 to begin his service as a Drug Detection
Military Working Dog. Iwan conducted over ten Health, Moral, and Welfare Inspections in various facilities on Misawa,
providing commanders with a tool to ensure there were no illegal drugs in their facilities. He conducted countless dog
demonstrations for such groups as Boy Scouts of America, Junior ROTC, Elementary and High School Classes, Health and
Wellness
Center as
well as demonstrations during American Day Festivals and Air Shows/Open House. Iwan conducted over 3000 hours of search
time, and maintained a 98% proficiency rating during all drug training trials. MWD Iwan was last handled by SSgt Michael
Dorsett.

MWD Kevin Y016 was born in February ’94. Upon completion of Explosive and Patrol school,
Kevin was assigned to
Misawa
AB. He arrived at Misawa in April ’96 to begin his service as a Explosive Detection
Military Working Dog. In ten years Kevin provided Explosive Detector Dog Support for various VIPs to include Presidents
Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Shalikashvili, Secretary of Defense William
Cohen, and Secretary of the Air Force, Honorable F. Whitten Peters. Kevin supported both Operations Southern Watch,
and Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom 4 times. Kevin conducted over 4000 hours of search time, and maintained a
100% proficiency rating during all explosive training trials. MWD Kevin was last handled by SSgt Jimmy Gullatt.


Sgt Joseph L. Fowler and Dak.
Sgt. Fowler was severely burned by an IED explosion on Dec 11, 2005. His working dog Dak, was
killed in the same explosion.

The following three Military Working
Dogs were buried at sea. December 2006.
USS BLUE RIDGE, At
Sea (NNS) -- Master-at-arms dog handlers from
Yokosuka Naval Base ceremoniously paid their last
respects to three of their working dog partners
during a burial at sea service Dec. 2 aboard USS
Blue Ridge (LCC 19).
Burials at sea are an age-old tradition in the Navy,
but this ceremony was the first of its kind on Blue
Ridge involving three military working dogs, Art,
Max and Connor.
